Interactive Maps Visualize Impacts of Redlining at Free Public Exhibit

Azavea provides data analytics services for exhibit explaining impacts of redlining

A free, public exhibit, “A Dream Deferred: Redlining Past, Present, Future”, opens September 21, 2018. The exhibit uses art, technology, and media to tell the story of how race and policy shape the landscape of Philadelphia and the lives of its residents.

The exhibit name is derived from a poem by Harlem Renaissance writer Langston Hughes. Visitors can learn about what happens when people and cities are restricted from reaching their true potential by exploring interactive touchscreen maps, an art installation by Shawn Theodore, and a short documentary film. The exhibit also includes a private confessional booth, where visitors are invited to share their personal reactions.

Our Data Analytics Team provided data collection, creation, and cartographic consulting services for this Knight Cities Challenge project led by Little Giant Creative.

The exhibit will be open from September 21, 2018 to November 17, 2018 and is located at 600 Spring Garden Street, Philadelphia, PA.
