Katie Brown is a Software Engineer on the Geospatial Applications Team.
Prior to joining Azavea, she worked as a public historian at museums and historical institutions in Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. While she initially began programming by editing web pages during her graduate assistantships, she continually sought out opportunities to apply and expand her knowledge of programming to address a variety of issues within the museum field. During her latest position at the Maryland Center for History and Culture in Baltimore, she designed and constructed a series of touchless interactive experiences to replace high-touch interactives within the museum’s galleries in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Initially, a Navy brat who grew up (mostly) in Florida, Katie has B.A.s in Economics and American Studies from Christopher Newport University and an M.A. in History from Virginia Tech.
Outside of work, you can find Katie reading, trying new teas, exploring Philly’s historic sites and parks, or experimenting with Raspberry Pis.
