Jacob is a Software Engineer on the Climate Applications Team at Azavea.
Jacob joined Azavea after working in roles ranging from software quality assurance to full-stack engineer to product owner at firms including an edtech startup, a sheet music retailer, and a medical records vendor. While earning a Ph.D. in music composition at the University of Pennsylvania, coursework in computer science inspired him to create tools to assist in creating his own electroacoustic compositions as well as to contribute to open-source libraries starting with music21 and eventually including the web framework Django and code linter pylint. Past work projects include developing a music information retrieval system and content search engine to support novel ways of searching for sheet music and developing features for an interactive music theory instruction platform. Jacob is excited to be working on projects at Azavea having a civic, social, and environmental impact.
Outside of work, Jacob composes, plays trumpet, and tends to the newest and oldest ends of an ever-elongating queue of books, films, and musical compositions to enjoy—always keeping a good thought for the ones stranded in the middle.
